Aegean Airlines is expected to take over Olympic Air on 18 October. It seems only yesterday that Olympic Air started concentrating on south eastern Europe, and dropped its flights to London. Aegean Air then took over the Olmpic routes from London to Athens.

Aegean Closes $94 Million Deal to Buy Olympic | Greece.GreekReporter.com Latest News from Greece
"Aegean Airlines and Marfin Investment Group (MIG) have agreed on the sale of 100% of Olympic Air to its rival, which will give them almost complete dominance over domestic air travel, almost two years after the European Commission blocked a merger on anti-competition grounds, and this deal, reported to be some $94 million, will face the same challenge."
So still subject to EC approval.
When Olympic flew to London I always travelled to Greece with Olympic. Since Aegean took over the Olympic slots at London, I have travelled with Aegean. No problems with either company. I like flying with a Greek airline as I feel as if I am in Greece on board! And (say it quietly!) you may find that the fares are cheaper than Easyjet!

Aegean and Olympic brace for turbulent times ahead

What next?
I used to fly regularly with Easyjet. The 10.15 p.m. flights from Luton to Athens were perfect for me. When Easyjet stopped running the 10.15 p.m. flights from Luton, I started flying (less conveniently for me) on the Olympic flight at 10.15 p.m. from Heathrow. Then when olympic stopped flying to heathrow earlier this year, I started flying with Aegean Air.
I find the 10.15 p.m. flight so good as you reach Athens airport in time to catch a bus to Piraeus, and catch one of the ferries leaving between 8 a.m and 9 a.m.

Olympic Air stopping all flights to London
We flew from London Heathrow to Athens, and on to Naxos with Olympic Air return flights from Naxos - Athens - London are with Olympic Air.
Today Olympic Air announced that from 27 March 2011 it will stop running flights to various destinations, including London.
We have flown with Olympic for many years, since Easyjet stopped running its late night flight from Luton to Athens.
When I get home I will be looking at what other flights are available from London to Athens. We always find the 22.15 flight very convenient, as you can get to the airport without taking a day off work; and if (as we usually do) we are catching a ferry, the flight is well timed for getting to Piraeus in time for the 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. ferry departures for the islands. No other airline as far as I am aware runs a late night flight from London to Athens.
And I also wonder what impact the ending of the Olympic Air flights from London will have on the Greek travel industry. How many people who usually visit Greece will decide that visiting Greece is just getting too difficult?
